EU embargo calls

The EU imposes arms embargo’s on countries that do not live up to the standards set in the EU Common Position on Arms Trade. There are embargo’s in force for e.g. China, Sudan, Syria and Iran. In 2002 the EU Parliament called on the Council to institute an arms embargo on Israel and Palestine. See European Parliament resolution on the Middle East

Another resolution in which an embargo was requested was drafted during the Gaza War in 2009 but never adopted

Also drafted were two resolutions in which it was asked of individual Member States, on a national basis, not to deliver arms to Israel. This, of course, is much weaker than a common EU arms embargo, which is a strong political statement.
